Thank you for your interest. We love our Dexters and how could you not?  Dexters are so much fun.   We think Dexters are the perfect breed, and did I mention that they are so much fun?   Dexters are a wonderful breed of cattle and they are perfect for a homestead or family cow.  They are very, very smart which is both good and bad.  In fact they are so smart they can be trained as oxen if you want to spend the time with them.  Their milk is excellent and is second in milk fat only to a Jersey.  The lactic acid molecule is smaller than in other breeds, so some people with lactose intolerance have been able to enjoy milk from a Dexter.  The meat from a Dexter has been voted 3rd best in taste tests, and marbles well on just pasture grass.

Our animals are gentle and have a very good disposition. They eat 10 to 15 lbs of feed each day,  and can be raised on 2/3 of an acre if you plan on feeding them year round you can have one on 1/2 an acre or less but because they are herding animals, they will do better if you have at least two.  Dexter’s are very hardy and will do well in heat and cold. They do need some place to get out of the wind, but it can even be a 3 sided shed.

Last year we were blessed to add some amazing cows to our herd from Debbie Davis.  In addition to some very nice Cow’s and heifers, "SGF LCIN Tighe" joined our herd.  He may have a funny name, but he will be a prize winning bull!  He is a short, red, chondro and PHA non carrier. Tighe has been genetically tested and is free of these genes.  He has a large front end and stands very square.  Tighe's mother and grandmother have very nice udders and we are hoping those features will be passed on.  Tighe has been bred to our cows that have been selected for dairy production.   We had a great calving season this year and got some really nice calves.  We are so excited and can’t wait to see what next year brings.  We were very blessed to get an awesome bull, and we are looking forward to the future with our Dexters.  Our heifer calves range between $1200 - $1500 and the bull calves are $600 - $800.   Our herd has been tested and is PHA free and is condro free with one possible exception. I would love to answer any other questions you have, please feel free to contact me at 801-518-4945.
